Kaye Farrer Art

A passion for art

I am an artist who has had an interest in the arts my entire life, my motto is “if someone else can do it, then you can too,” therefore, I have been always perfecting my art and trying new creative outlets.

I remember seeing a beautiful piece of lead lighting many years ago and next thing you know, I am lost in the world of lead lighting as a creative outlet.

Each time, after exploring new mediums, I come back to my true love of drawing and painting.

Exploring my style

I explored various medias, starting with water colours, acrylics and then oils.  From this, I started using whichever I felt most appropriate to the subject.

We hear said that “blue and green should never be seen,” mother nature obviously has not heard this saying, she has it everywhere. So, like mother nature, I do not limit the pallets I use. Vibrancy, subtly and everything in between is out there and therefore in my art.

Inspiration is out there everywhere. You see my love of nature in what I paint. The beauty of nature and the diversity of its shapes and colours captivate me. To paint and preserve the beauty of a moment on canvas is my happy place.  Getting lost in time I am absorbed by method and music. Paintbrush in hand, emerging later, having lost hours.

In 2006 I had my first exhibition alongside a dear friend who carved sandstone. Together we took the scary step of putting our work out in the public eye for all to see, it was well received and the pride of looking at what we had achieved was immense.

After that I joined the Nelson Suter Art Society (NSAS), a prestigious art group based in Nelson New Zealand. To get into the group, you submit your art for them to review, and if good enough, you are invited to join the society. This was another milestone and proud moment along my journey.  From that point forward I have entered my art into the group exhibitions, and from this, experienced the thrill of selling and having it shipped to locations far and wide.

I also won a ‘People’s Choice’(!), knowing that your art has been chosen as the pick of the bunch when there are so many talented artists and beautiful pieces of work, was humbling (and I must admit just a little bit thrilling). This inspired me to move to the next level and to dedicate more time to what I love. Hence you being here today.
